Cat Saunders is a British artist living and working in the Swiss Alps. Her creative journey began early, with a strong artistic drive nurtured during her school years. She went on to pursue an art foundation course and later studied Design at university, further honing her skills.
Over time, Cat’s work has evolved into a distinctive style. Today, she is known for her striking mountain landscapes, created using various types of metal leaf on white cotton canvas. Each piece is carefully crafted—Cat builds every frame and stretches each canvas by hand to ensure the ideal surface. Her dedication to craftsmanship and her refined technique result in artworks of enduring quality and beauty.
A unique aspect of her work is the use of metal leaf, which naturally changes over time. While some pieces are sealed with an anti-oxidation spray to preserve their appearance, others are left untreated, allowing the metal to age and evolve. This choice offers collectors the option to witness the artwork’s transformation or maintain its original state.
In 2017, Cat co-founded the Galerie Alpine Association with four fellow artists. Together, they run a gallery in Villars-sur-Ollon, providing a platform for emerging artists in the region.
In November 2018, she launched her first collection of limited edition prints, now available through her online shop.
“The atmosphere in the mountains is always shifting—from sunrise to sunset, you can feel the changing moods. In my work, I aim to capture these fleeting moments. As the metal leaf catches the light, it mimics sunlight dancing across the peaks, casting shadows that move with you.”
